How this was created:

This unedited idea from Songworks was created to four chords of human invention. The program then created a treble clef tune to go with them, and then we added another treble clef staff and asked Songworks to come up with another tune to follow the same harmony.

The drifting effect is a result of specifying the harmony ourselves. After those four initial chords we just left it with the CM7 chord, so the program's invented melodies hovered around that harmony. You can tell Songworks how long each idea should be, so in this case we told it to compose 30 beats of melody even though that specified harmony lasts only 8 beats.

Orchestration:

After importing the Songworks music into Garageband we used Garritan Personal Orchestra to provide a Steinway piano for the accompaniment and vibraphones for the two melody lines.
