PRACTICA

MUSICA®

Practica Musica is a complete software environment for ear training and music theory study. First released in 1987 ("Best Education Software of the Year" - MacUser), Practica Musica is now in its 7th major release for both Windows and Macintosh computers. It includes over 150 interactive learning activities plus a digital fundamentals textbook with audible examples. Difficulty levels range from beginning (Up or Down, Leap vs. Step) to advanced (Melodic Dictation, Roman Numeral Analysis, Part Writing). Student progress can be monitored online by instructors and instructors can optionally post customized learning activities.

Coming Fall 2022 from Ars Nova

• Practica Musica Exams

The new exam activities include Interval Playing and Spelling, Chord Playing and Spelling, Basic Roman Numeral Analysis, Scales, and Degrees in Context.

Exams are in two forms: Practice and Final. Practice exams can be taken repeatedly and change their material list each time. Final exams can be taken once, and present the same materials list to all the students.

Each student sees the practice exams listed in the topic columns for activities.

If the instructor wants to give the class a final exam, it is enough to upload the desired practice exams to the class Webstudents account, with or without any other customization. The exam then appears in the From Instructor column for each student and can be taken (once!) at any time thereafter.

Scores for exams appear in the progress report of each student, just like those of other activities, but the scores for exams provided by the instructor cannot be deleted until the instructor has taken down the exam.

• Exploring Theory

Our digital textbook, Exploring Theory, has also been given a revision, with improvements to the navigation bar and revisions to the text. Exploring Theory and its live animated music examples continue to be available both within Practica Musica and online at our web site.

Practica Musica is offered in three forms for Apple Macintosh and Windows 10 computers. All three include the digital textbook and the complete set of learning activities.

• Personal

Personal editions are available at the Apple Mac Store and the Windows Store for $44.99. These do not require a site license, but can connect to a school Webstudents account. Webstudents accounts are free upon request from an instructor and provide a way for instructors to follow student progress and post assignments if desired.

• Site licensed

Site licensed personal editions are freely downloadable to student computers, up to the limit of the license. Students need only the school's Webstudents account name to sign in.

Lab edition: Site licensed schools have the additional option of placing the Lab Edition on school computers. It allows students to pick their names from the Webstudents class list rather than relying on local storage for the student files.

Songworks provides notation tools for easy preparation of printed scores ranging from songs to multipart compositions. Features include audible chord symbols, flexible measure lengths, and the ability to notate tunes played on the computer keys "piano" or a MIDI keyboard. Songworks is available through the Apple Mac Store and the Windows Store for $39.99.
